Hong Kong Telecom Institute of Information Technology (HKTIIT) Theme Based Research and Development Program

The purpose of this program is to provide funding to support research projects in the area of telecommunications. The specific theme of the research is set by the management committee of the HKTIIT and will be reviewed annually.

The current research theme is Advanced Technologies for future 5G Wireless Communications and potential topics include (but not limited to):

- New physical layer, signal processing and network technologies
- New enabling technologies such as Massive MIMO, Fog Network and mmWave
- Green Communications
- IoT implications for 5G
- 5G in IoT Environments such as Smart Home, Healthcare and Vehicular Telematics
- Unlicensed dynamic spectrum access - algorithms, designs and experimentation
- New architectures for RAN such as C-RAN and Network-based RAN
- New architectures for Core networks, SON and SDN/NFV

All tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply for the R&D Program and there is an open call made annually. The deadline for applications to reach us is 31 March each year and further details on the application procedure for the HKTIIT R&D Program can be found at OCGA. Currently we usually support only one application from those submitted each year.
